THE world-acclaimed British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) has reported the death of Copperbelt University’s iconic pond fish, Mafishi which died yesterday.

Mafishi’s death has sparked outpouring messages of grief accross social media platforms including President Edgar Lungu’s Facebook page.The story hasbnow been noticed and picked by the BBC and reported it under the headline

“Zambia’s president leads nation in mourning pond fish”.”The fish – affectionately known as Mafishi – has been mourned by political adversaries President Edgar Lungu and opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema,”

the BBC reported.

Further the BBC reported that President Lungu quoted Mahatma Gandhi while mourning the fish, writing that “the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
