POLICE Spokesperson Esther Katongo says opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilma is not among the party members who have been summoned by police in Muchinga Province.
And Katongo has warned UPND supporters planning to go and give solidarity to their leaders who have been summoned by police in Muchinga not to go ahead with their plans or else they will face consequences.
Katongo in a statement said she has monitored some social media posts in which some UPND officials are calling for people to go and give solidarity to their members. She has advised them not to proceed with their plans warning that doing so will be tantamount to unlawful assembly or conducting an illegal procession which is against the law.Katongo said there is no need for sympathisers to be in conflict with the law.
“As per our mandate of maintaining law and order in the country, we will be at hand to do just that. We therefore advise all those planning to travel to Muchinga Province for the above mentioned reason to rescind their decision,”- said Katongo.
